About Us

April Love is the founder of Holistic Horseworks and a pioneering equine bodywork practitioner dedicated to keeping horses healthy, sound, and rideable through their 30s. With over two decades of experience working with thousands of horses, April has developed a unique, comprehensive approach to equine wellness that addresses the root causes of body issues rather than just treating symptoms. April's journey into equine bodywork began with her experience training and conditioning top endurance horses. Frustrated by recurring lameness and behavioral issues that traditional approaches couldn't resolve, she sought to understand why horses were being retired at ages 12-20 when they should remain rideable well into their 30s. This led her to study five different modalities—ultimately blending them into her signature holistic approach. Her philosophy is simple yet profound: most training and behavioral issues stem from the horse's body being out of alignment. Pain and physical discomfort create the reactions that are often mislabeled as behavioral problems. By addressing these underlying physical issues, horses can perform their work with joy and ease. April developed "Yoga for Horses"—an osteopathic form of stretching and bodywork that serves as both a diagnostic tool and a preventative maintenance system. If a horse cannot comfortably perform these movements, it signals that professional intervention is needed. Her work encompasses: - Equine Musculoskeletal Unwinding (Level 1) - Cranial Sacral Unwinding and Advanced Applied Kinesiology (Level 2) - Equine Cranial Decompression (Level 3) April specializes in addressing first rib misalignment—which she identifies as the root cause of 90% of her cases—along with pull-back trauma, high-low hoof syndrome, and the cascade of compensations these create throughout the horse's body. Global Impact Through Holistic Horseworks, April leads a global network of certified instructors who teach horse owners how to find and fix the causes of body issues affecting their horses. Her three-day hands-on clinics empower owners with the knowledge and skills to maintain their horses' health between professional sessions. April's work has helped countless horses avoid early retirement, return to soundness after mysterious lameness, and resolve issues that stumped traditional veterinary approaches—from chronic eye problems to unexplained behavioral changes. April's mission extends beyond individual horses. She's passionate about preventing unnecessary euthanasia and reducing the number of horses ending up in rescue facilities or slaughter yards due to treatable physical issues. Her accessible, owner-friendly approach democratizes advanced bodywork knowledge, giving horse owners the tools to be active participants in their horses' health and longevity.
